Multi-Factor Biometrics

Biometrics—those unique personal characteristics: fingerprints, voice, iris, handprint, that can be used to prove identity with a high degree of accuracy—have been recognized by experts as the only effective means to authenticate a person’s identity.

But a single biometric is not sufficient for future mobile security. Multiple biometrics increase security exponentially. Multi-biometric systems are now in use in large-scale U.S. government systems, including the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The key to widespread adoption of multi-factor biometrics-based security systems is to store each person’s biometrics on a secure mobile platform that allows for offline identity verification. A high capacity ‘smart’ ID card.

Biometrics cannot be stolen or forgotten and are difficult to forge, making them ideal for identity authentication.

But today’s smart cards are simply not up to the task. Meanwhile, smartphones and tablets are being deployed with Bluetooth and biometrics apps and capabilities, turning these widely deployed devices into an army of convenient and cost-effective card readers.
