Biometrics—those unique personal characteristics: fingerprints, voice, iris, handprint, that can be used to prove identity with a high degree of accuracy — have been recognized by experts as the only effective means to authenticate a person’s identity. Biometrics cannot be stolen or fogotten and are difficult to forge, making them ideal for identity authentication. Biometric systems are now in use in large-scale U.S. government systems, including the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
