Secure Mobile Health Records

Exchanging data as important as personal health records should be secure and easy. Unfortunately, today this is simply not the case. A recent survey of nearly 1,300 family physicians who use electronic health records in their practices found that 264 different software vendors were used and none of the 264 products currently shares data with any of the other products. “Despite spending $150 million in IT a year, we still have a problem with hand-offs.” Dr. Tonya Hongsermeier, corporate manager of clinical decision support and knowledge management at Partners HealthCare System Inc. in Boston.

The technology required to carry personal medical data securely and conveniently is a reality: BluStor. The BluStor platform consists of a large storage capacity (up to 8GB) flash memory integrated into the ubiquitous smart card form factor, and it interfaces to all standard industry connections — including USB 2.0 and Bluetooth — making the BluStor Smart Card compatible with virtually any mobile device, including iPhones, iPads and laptops.

BluStor meets all of the requirements for a mobile, secure card platform for high-end applications such as health care.

Fraud Prevention & Untethered Access to Healthcare Services

In 2010, the National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association stated that the US loses $100 billion per year to medical fraud. There are numerous countries, including China, India, Brazil, Germany and many others, that have already established a National Health Card. And increasingly there is a need for individuals to have offline access to personal medical data. Soldiers travelling globally or injured in conflict need immediate access to personal medical records to minimize risk from uninformed medical intervention. Similarly, any individual whether taken ill at home or collapsing in the street cannot rely on access to the internet for medical data to minimize similar risk from medical treatments.
